Community Employment
The Kalix Employer/ Employee Partnership (KEEP) Team supports people to achieve independence in community employment by working with local businesses to identify tasks that match a potential employee’s skill set as well as fill a business need. Job Sites
Job Coaching Services Available
Kalix and MVW Services have developed a variety of job sites in order to offer employment to people with disabilities. People with and without disabilities work together to complete assigned tasks according to customer specifications.
For some people, working at a job site managed by Kalix or MVW Services is in preparation for independent employment in the community. Others choose long-term employment with MVW Services because it works better for them and meets their vocational goals.
Kalix and MVW job sites include:
- Confidential Shredding
- Bakery
- Maintenance Crews (In house and on Totten Trail/ Douglas Creek)
- Car Care
- Laundry
- Thrift Store (Belcourt)
- Daytime cleaning crews (MAFB)
- Nighttime cleaning crew (MAFB)
- Postal Service Center (MAFB)
Discovery Program
Kalix’s Discovery Program (PreVocational Services) combines instruction in general work skills with activities designed to assist participants to learn more about potential work options suited to personal dreams and interests.
Program activities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Building on employment skills while working at a paid job.
- Playing games or completing projects related to skills needed for work.
- Visiting various businesses or talk with business representatives to learn about different types of jobs.
- Learning how interests/hobbies can be generalized to work skills, such as gardening or making items to sell at the Farmer’s Market.
Day Habilitation
Kalix’s Day Program provides a variety of opportunities to socialize, recreate, and give back to the community.
Day Program activities may include, but aren’t limited to:
- Volunteering in the community
- A unique sensory room and sensory based activities
- Interest exploration and hobby development such as photography, technology, etc.
- Opportunities for exercising and maintaining best possible health
- Accessible gardening
