All about Apps

Over the past few years we have stumbled upon some great apps used during assessments, AT trials, and Free App Friday alerts. While there are millions of apps available for iOS and Android devices, some have been more popular within our agency than others.That being said, here is a few of the most utilized apps throughout our agency and some of my personal favorites, which all are available to try on the Kalix iTunes account.

Sensory/Self-Regulation: These apps are a great resource for redirecting, calming, and stimulation.

Gravitarium 2 $2.99– Create your own abstract line art by multi-touch gestures that change the way the particles dance, flow, and interact. Watch the animations dance along with original songs or your personal iTunes soundtracks. Available on the App Store and Google Play

Osmos HD $2.99– Enter the Darwinian world of a galactic mote. To survive, absorb smaller organisms and grow—but beware of larger predators. Osmos features unique physics-based play, stellar graphics, and a hypnotic soundtrack of ambient electronica. Available on the App Store and Google Play

MeMoves $9.99– Perform finger puzzles correctly to the beat of the music and watch as the screen comes alive. Based on the award-winning MeMoves DVD, the MeMoves app can provide instant calm and focus anywhere. Available on the App Store

Sound Prism Free– Enables you to create beautiful music immediately without any previous knowledge. With its unique visualization of pitches and intuitive controls composing sophisticated melodies, tone and chord patterns becomes child’s play. Available on the App Store

Brain Games: Studies show that some people who participate in mentally challenging activities on a daily basis, in conjunction with other healthy lifestyle factors, can help reduce the risk of developing Dementia later in life. Learn more here and check out some of these great brain games that can be customized for anyone.

Recreation/Special Interest: Apps that promote creativity, teach about history, and are all around fun to play.

TIMEMAPS World War 2- Interactive History Maps, Battles and Key Characters $2.99– Follow step by step the development of the biggest conflict in the history of humanity: from the rise of Hitler in Germany to Hiroshima and Nagasaki, discover the causes, the key personalities and the decisive events of the war. Google Earth Free– Fly around the planet with a swipe of your finger with Google Earth. Explore distant lands or reacquaint yourself with your childhood home. Visit the Earth Gallery to find exciting maps such as real-time earthquakes, planes in flight, hiking trails, city tours, and more. Toca Hair Salon Me $2.99– Lets you be the customer and the stylist! Curly, straight or purple? Create a funky hairdo any way you like. Grow it long or cut it short, shave one side or spray paint it every color of the rainbow. The possibilities are endless! Available on the App Store and Google Play
