Overview of the Referral Process
People may obtain information about services offered through KALIX, Inc. (KALIX) by contacting the agency directly (701-852-1014) or by contacting the Disabilities Services Division of the North Dakota Department of Human Services (701-857-8500).
How do I get a Case Manager and become eligible for services?
The Developmental Disability Services uses an internal screening process to determine if applicants are eligible for services funded through Vocational Rehabilitation and/or Developmental Disabilities services. After visiting with the person and/or their family, the case managers from Developmental Disability Services assist the person to identify what services they may need.
The Information gathered is then submitted to the Regional Interagency Referral Committee. This committee screens all applicants for services within the region to determine which agencies offer services needed by the applicant. Detailed referral information, upon consent, is provided to the selected agencies.
Who pays for these services? Is private pay an option?
The Human Services Department is responsible for contracting and paying for services for people with developmental disabilities. If a person does not qualify for services under the screening process, then the person themselves would need to pay privately if services are chosen. Private pay is an option, but depending upon the level of support the person needs, it may cost up to $100,000/year.
Who do I contact for a tour of KALIX's residential and vocational opportunities?
People seeking services are offered opportunities to visit the Agency, view work and living sites, meet with staff, and gather information regarding available service options. The Director of Quality Assurance is the internal contact who arranges visits, answers questions and provides information needed or requested. If interested in setting up a tour, please call 701-852-1014 and ask for the Director of Quality Assurance.
How am I notified about my status on the referral list?
The Director of Quality Assurance informs the Developmental Disability Case Manager and Agency staff as to the status of the referral. The Developmental Disability Case Manager will keep you informed as to the status of the person being referred. Once it is determined that there is a vacancy, KALIX works collaboritively with you and the Developmental Disability Case Manager to determine an enrollment date. The Program Director starts collecting information to assure that all necessary supports are in place prior to the move.
